Charitable Purpose
Sunflower House Inc. is established as a charitable organisation whose purpose is to advance health and social welfare and provide benevolent relief to people experiencing mental illness, psychosocial disability, social isolation and related disadvantage within Wagga Wagga and the broader Riverina region.
The organisation pursues these purposes by:
• Providing a community-based mental health service offering safe, non-clinical psychosocial support that promotes wellbeing, recovery and social connection.
• Delivering structured psychosocial recovery programs designed to empower individuals to build resilience, develop life skills, strengthen confidence and participate meaningfully in community life.
• Supporting early intervention and preventative initiatives that promote mental wellbeing, reduce social isolation and help prevent deterioration in mental health that may otherwise lead to crisis or acute care.
• Providing support for individuals experiencing psychosocial disability who are not eligible for, or do not receive, NDIS funding, recognising that many vulnerable people fall outside formal disability systems yet remain at significant risk of social isolation, deterioration in mental health and interaction with acute health services.
• Working collaboratively with regional health and community partners, including the Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) and the Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network (MPHN), to support an Integrated Recovery Pathway that strengthens continuity of care between clinical mental health services and sustained community-based recovery support.
• Encouraging lived experience participation and peer support as a vital component of recovery-oriented mental health care.
• Promoting awareness, understanding and community education relating to mental health, and advocating for the dignity, inclusion and rights of people experiencing mental illness.
• Collaborating with and complementing other organisations across the mental health, community services, disability employment, housing and social support sectors to improve recovery outcomes and strengthen community wellbeing.
